Immediately after the partition in 1954, Saigon was the official capital of the then South Vietnam. After the Vietnamese War that ended in 1975, South Vietnam merged with the North and Hanoi was the official capital of the united country. Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City. Today, Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in the whole of Vietnam.

The HaLong Bay is situated in the north of Vietnam and literally means the Descending Dragon. The waters around the bay area are calm and serene and the bay is dotted with a number of lime stone mountains. The water is clear during the spring and summer and is also good for swimming.
